How to Deal with Blemish Prone Skin

How to Deal with Blemish Prone Skin

What is your biggest skincare concern? If you are prone to blemishes, it can be tricky balancing skin’s natural oils, while leaving it hydrated and soft. Whether your skincare concerns are seasonal, related to your cycle, or always prone to breakouts, Neal’s Yard Remedies Purifying Palmarosa products have you covered.

Organic Skincare | Neal's Yard Remedies | NYR Organic | Combination Skin | Oily Skin | Palmarosa | Blemish Prone Skin

Cleanse

Cleansing is the first step in any skincare regimen. Purifying Palmarosa Facial Wash cleanses, decongests and removes impurities while balancing excess oils.

Tone

Purifying Palmarosa Toner gently cleanses, tones, balances and minimizes pores without over-drying combination skin. Toner primes skin to better absorb serum and moisturizer.

Serum

Oily, combination and blemish prone skin can actually be lacking in hydration. Purifying Palmarosa Mattifier is an oil balancing serum that reduces shine and minimizes the appearance of pores while leaving skin with a soft, matte finish.

Moisturize

Purifying Palmarosa Daily Moisture is a lightweight, easily absorbed blend of palmarosa, alpine willowherb and elemi, to help balance excess oils, purify, nourish, hydrate and mattify oily, combination or blemish prone skin.

Exfoliate

Once a week exfoliation with Purifying Palmarosa Facial Polish will refine, decongest, balance and refresh blemish prone skin.

Special Treatment

Clarifying Mahonia Skin Gel  is the perfect spot treatment for blemish prone skin or for occasional breakouts. This dermatologist tested gel is suitable for even sensitive skin. For a weekly treatment that  removes impurities, detoxifies and rebalances moisture levels to reveal fresh, radiant skin, try the Palmarosa Purifying Facial Mask.

Will you need to use all of these products to successfully treat your blemish prone skin? Maybe not. Many of us benefit by changing up our skincare routine depending on the season. Neal’s Yard Remedies products are highly concentrated, and a little goes a long way, especially if you are layering toner, serum and moisturizer. I love that Neal’s Yard Remedies products are covered by a 45 day satisfaction guarantee, and they follow the Precautionary Principle, meaning you won’t find anything in these products they believe could cause you or the planet harm.

I recommend starting with the Purifying Palmarosa Collection. You save 15% and the collection includes facial wash, toner and moisturizer. Another option is the Purifying Palmarosa Skincare Kit, which includes a 10-14 day supply of facial wash, toner, moisturizer and facial mask in a canvas bag, perfect for travel.

All About Neal’s Yard Remedies Labels

All About Neal’s Yard Remedies Labels

What information do Neal’s Yard Remedies product ingredient labels contain? How do they differ from US product labeling? The European Union sets a higher level of transparency for finished cosmetic products, preventing the marketing of hazardous ingredients, and strengthening safety for consumers.

What does it mean to be organic?

In the US the term “organic” is not defined in the regulations that FDA enforces under their authority for cosmetic products. Neal’s Yard Remedies products are manufactured in England, and the ingredients in them are certified organic by the Soil Association, a well respected non-profit third party certification organization. It is considered one of the most stringent of organic certification bodies anywhere in the world. Food, health, beauty and textile products that hold the Soil Association organic symbol have been produced to the highest possible animal welfare and environmental standards.

Products containing more than 95% certified organic ingredients can carry the Soil Association logo and use “organic” in the product name. Items with 70-95% certified organic ingredients can carry the Soil Association label, but do not have “organic” in the product name. Products with less than 70% organic ingredients will have the organic ingredients indicated with an asterisk (*). Clay based products are an exception, as only agricultural products can be considered organic.

Neal's Yard Remedies | NYR Organic | Ingredient labels | green beauty | Organic skincare | Soil Association | ethical company

What about those symbols?

Neal’s Yard Remedies products will have either the hour glass symbol which stands for Date of Minimum Durability, or BBE which stands for Best Before End Date. It’s important to note these are not expiration dates. A products who’s BBE date has come and gone may still be good. The best way to check if a product is usable is by aroma, appearance and texture. So many factors go into a product staying fresh, like the temperature it was stored at, and whether a spatula was used for products in jars. The other symbol on the packaging is the open jar, or PAO. This gives you the Period After Opening, or number of months that the product will be at its best. Typically this will be 3, 6 or 12 months. Each product will contain a Batch number. Quality Control keeps a reference sample at the factory from each batch.

How long do Essential Oils last?

Essential oils don’t expire, therefore you won’t find an expiration date on them. It is recommended you use them within 12 months, however many will be good well beyond that. The citrus oils tend to lose their usefulness quicker. A great way to use older oils is for cleaning.

In the European Union full ingredients, listed in decreasing order, are compulsory on the labels. The INCI, the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients is a standardized system of naming ingredients, requiring plant ingredients to be listed by the botanical names. When a product contains essential oils, the constituents of the essential oils must be listed. This is a EU requirement, they were not added separately. These essential oil constituents are listed on the labels in italics.

Labeling laws are more lax in the US. Ingredients can be hidden under “fragrance,” “parfum,” and by simply listing “key ingredients.” Trade secret laws permit many ingredients to be hidden from ingredient labels.

You will also find a list of ingredients never used in Neal’s Yard Remedies products on the label, such as parabens, synthetic fragrance, and mineral oil. Read more about what goes into Neal’s Yard Remedies products in the Ingredients Statement.

Introducing Frankincense Intense™ Lift Cream

Introducing Frankincense Intense™ Lift Cream

We already know Neal’s Yard Remedies has amazing skincare for a variety of skin types. March 1st brings Frankincense Intense™ Lift Cream to the US. If you have been looking to organic solutions for aging well and age-defying skincare, look no further.

Frankincense Intense Lift Cream | Neal's Yard Remedies | NYR Organic | Age defying | anti-aging | organic skincare

Neal’s Yard Remedies is known for certified organic skincare containing frankincense. Frankincense Intense™ Lift Cream contains frankincense, Boswellia sacra, sustainably and ethically sourced from Oman by 20 collectors who are experts in caring for the valuable trees.

Frankincense Active Phyto Complex

Frankincense Intense™ Lift Cream contains an exclusive green science breakthrough, Frankincense Active Phyto Complex. After the frankincense is steam distilled and the valuable essential oil is extracted, the by-product left behind is transformed into an antioxidant complex to help protect against environmental factors that accelerate skin aging.

Frankincense Intense™ Lift Cream is perfect for skin with deeper lines and a lack of tone. Over time our skin produces less oils and ceramides and maintains less moisture. This nourishing cream plumps and hydrates to give a visibly lifted and recontoured appearance. Hyaluronic acid helps replenish the moisture in our skin. Nourishing chiuri butter from the Himalayan butter tree in Nepal is rich in essential fatty acids and vitamin E, and is a great ethical and sustainable natural alternative to palm oil. Softening cupuaçu butter from the seeds of the Cupuaçu Tree in the Amazon, is nutrient and antioxidant-rich and helps to soften and moisturize the skin. Strengthening dhatelo oil comes from a Himalayan shrub in Nepal, and is rich in essential fatty acids omega 6 and 9, to protect and strengthen the skin.

How to Use

After cleansing and toning, use every morning and evening. Apply a small amount to face and neck, pausing to enjoy the lovely fragrance. I recommend using a small spatula for products in a jar, as a little goes a long way, and it keeps the product cleaner. For even better results, use after Frankincense Intense™ Lift Serum.

I believe in aging well by focusing on over-all wellness. That includes our Frankincense Intense Beauty Boost supplement. If you believe in a holistic life-style approach to aging well, give Frankincense Intense™ Lift Cream a try!

5 Tips to Avoid the Flu

5 Tips to Avoid the Flu

We’ve all heard the news about this year’s flu. Hospitals are seeing more people sick with the flu than in ten years. We are advised if we haven’t gotten the flu vaccine, there is still plenty of time for it (even though it’s maybe 10% effective), and wash your hands. Is that really all we can do to avoid the flu?

How about supporting our immune system? Isn’t that our first defense against illness?

Stay Hydrated

Hydrating your body is one of the best and easiest places to start. Heating systems dry out the air in our homes, schools and work places. Dare I say dried out mucous membranes won’t be as effective as your first defense against illness, so drink enough water. Occasional diffusing with essential oils can both add moisture to the air in your home, as well as help cleanse it.

Keep Skin Healthy and Moisturized

Your skin is your largest organ, and another basic defense in keeping illness away. All that hand washing can dry your skin to the point of it being chapped and even getting those miserable little splits on the fingertips. Besides drinking enough water, be diligent about applying hand and body cream. Melissa Hand Cream nourishes, protects and conditions better than any hand cream I’ve tried.

About Your Hands

Speaking of hand washing, another frequent recommendation is hand sanitizer. Unfortunately hand sanitizers can contain chemicals and fragrances that could harm your health. It doesn’t makes sense to choose a product with nasty ingredients that can make you sick to keep yourself well. Choose a healthy option like Organic Defence Hand Spray, that is gentle yet effective, and safe for the entire family.

Diet

If you aren’t already eating a clean, whole and where ever possible organic food diet, now is the time to start. A healthy gut is a great place to start supporting your immune system, and Organic Fiber Blend may help. There may not be tons of data supporting the benefits of supplements, but I believe in extra Vitamin C, and  Vitamin D3. Elderberry has been used in folk medicine for hundreds of years. When it comes to supporting the immune system, these berries are a nutritious powerhouse containing antioxidants, Vitamins A, B and C as well as amino acids. You can find it in syrup, lozenge or capsule form in the health food section.

Holistic Wellness | Neal's Yard Remedies | NYR Organic | Avoid the flu | Immunity Support | Immune System

Exercise and Sleep

Finally, exercise contributes to general good health, and who knows – a good work out could flush bacteria and viruses out of your system. Your body does much of it’s repair work while you are sleeping, so make sure you are getting enough. Good Night Pillow Mist can support a sense of calm and relaxation to aid in a restful night.

Unfortunately there is no guaranteed way of avoiding the flu. I believe the more you do to keep yourself as healthy as possible the more likely you are to avoid the flu.

This post is not intended to be medical advice. Check with your medical practitioner before taking any new supplements if you are currently on prescription medications to avoid unwanted interaction. If you are ill, seek the care of a qualified medical practitioner.

What steps are you taking to stay healthy and avoid the flu? Continue the discussion on Facebook.

Neal’s Yard Remedies Introduces 6 Essential Oils to the US Market

Neal’s Yard Remedies Introduces 6 Essential Oils to the US Market

Neal’s Yard Remedies began selling essential oils back in 1981 in Neal’s Yard, London, long before MLM and network marketing companies started selling essential oils. They sold pure essential oils to aromatherapists, as well as herbs, and homoeopathic remedies.  Neal’s Yard Remedies is the first main street retailer in the UK to sell certified organic essential oils. Over 30 years of experience in essential oils and relationships with suppliers is unsurpassed. You can always count on the fact Neal’s Yard Remedies Essential Oils are sustainably sourced with minimal impact on the environment. Read more about Neal’s Yard Remedies essential oil experience in this POST.

Feb. 1 Neal’s Yard Remedies is introducing 6 additional essential oils to the US market.

Sandalwood

After years of searching for a sustainable source of Sandalwood Essential Oil (Santalum Album) Neal’s Yard Remedies has secured a sustainable supply of Sandalwood in Australia. In the past, Sandalwood has been harvested nearly to extinction due to it’s high value and demand. Sandalwood is extracted from trees grown in sustainably managed plantations. The evocative woody aroma promotes calm and relaxation and a profound feeling of wellbeing. It combines well with bergamot, jasmine, palmarosa and ylang-ylang.

Cedarwood

Cedarwood Essential Oil (Cedrus Atlantica) is sourced mainly from Morocco and France. It’s uplifting woody aroma makes it a perfect pick-me-up. Cedarwood blends well with bergamot, frankincense, juniper and rosemary.

Jasmine Absolute

Jasmine Absolute (Jasminum officinale) is another uplifting oil. Too fragile to be steam distilled, Jasmine is solvent extracted. Sourced from India, the night-flowering Jasmine is hand-picked at dawn, before it releases it’s sweet, heady aroma. Jasmine blends well with orange, rose and ylang-ylang.

Neal's Yard Remedies, NYR Organic, Aromatherapy, Essential Oils, Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Jasmine, Petipgrain, Thyme, Juniper

Juniper

Juniper Essential Oil (Juniperus communis) is steam distilled from the dried, crushed fruit of the twig and berries of the juniper plant. The warm, woody, herbacious fragrance provides a cleansing action. Organic Juniper is sourced from France. Combine it with lavender, ginger, rosemary and the citrus oils.

Petitgrain

Petitgrain Essential Oil (Citrus aurantium amara) is another beneficial oil from the bitter orange tree, the other being neroli. It has a relaxing and uplifting fresh floral aroma. Petitgrain blends well with neroli, clary sage and rosemary. It is sourced from Paraguay.

Thyme Linalol

Thyme Linalol Essential Oil (Thymus vulgaris ct linalol) is a more gentle form of Thyme and is sourced from France. It has a stimulating, cleansing action with a wonderful herby fragrance. Thyme has been used as a medicinal herb for thousands of years. It combines well with antiseptic oils like clove, eucalyptus and lavender.

Company knowledge is also important. Knowing what is allowed and whether you can use the company name on social media. Understanding the compensation plan. If you are still looking at direct sales companies read 10 Questions to Ask Before Joining a Direct Sales Company.

My 2018 Word of the Year

My 2018 Word of the Year

Do you choose a focus word at the beginning of a new year? I did last year, and for the life of me I couldn’t remember what it was. I was thinking it had something to do with relationships-big surprise! Apparently I lost my focus.

As 2017 comes to a close, I’m thinking about goals for my business and personal life, and again I’m choosing a focus word for the coming year. Maybe if I write it at the top of my planner each month, I can stay more focused, right?

2017 is the year I finally “got” the mind-set thing. I’m embarrassed to say I’ve never been the type of person who puts her goals in writing, but I finally understand the power in doing that.

Thanks to looking back on my iPad, I found last year’s word. Now I remember, and I did in fact keep the word “reach” in sight for the first part of the year.

My goal in 2018 is recruiting a Neal’s Yard Remedies team of business builders. I want to share Neal’s Yard Remedies products with many more clients so they will be improving their lives and their health. I want to offer the option to host and earn free and half-priced products.

So my focus word for 2018 is “invitation.” Invitation is a low pressure word. Whether I invite you for a cup of coffee or to join the Neal’s Yard Remedies family, it’s for you to decide if it’s right for you. I need to get out of my own way and not take it personally when my invitation is declined. In fact I need to think of each no as getting me that much closer to yes.

Focus Word, Word of the Year, 2018 Focus word,

Invitations are not a life-long commitments. They are just invitations. It for you to decide if you accept and try for a month or two, or for the long haul. I invite you to learn more about what Neal’s Yard Remedies has to offer you. This company has been such a blessing to me and my family. I would love to see you blessed as well. Contact me for a “think about it” packet, and together let’s make 2018 our best year ever!

Life is Better With a Dog

Life is Better With a Dog

After ten years without a dog, I suddenly found myself wanting, no make that needing a dog. It happened out of the blue, really. I was minding my own business, checking out the latest photos on Instagram, when I was blindsided by some adorable pictures of Basset Hounds. Each day I looked forward to seeing these cute photos, and even searched #bassethounds to follow more. I commented to the owner of a Basset Hound, that her dog photos were enough to make me want one of my own.

I thought about how our lives might be better with a dog. After our last dog passed, we felt too busy for a dog. The kids had moved on, and it was nice not being tied down by a dog. Then I realized at our age we really are home a lot, now. Denny offices out of the house. I’m a real home body. A dog’s unconditional love would certainly enhance our lives, right? We would get more exercise walking the dog and enjoy watching TV with the dog by our side.

My friends had mixed reactions to my plan of getting a dog. Those without dogs thought I was crazy, and those with dogs thought the idea was brilliant.

puppy, Basset Hound, dog ownership

I dreaded telling Denny. Our dog experiences were not always the best. The first was the worst. We were newlyweds. Someone outside of the grocery store where Denny worked had a box full of puppies they were giving away. He knew I loved dogs, so he brought one home for me. We had an unfinished basement, so while we were at work, the dog had the run of it. The entire basement. Every day when Denny got home (he got home first, thank goodness!) there were piles all over the basement. Who knew a small puppy could create so many large piles? And we couldn’t figure out why we couldn’t house train this poor dog. After many piles in the basement, we decided this puppy needed someone home during the day. But God bless him, he was supportive of getting another dog.

There were other dogs after that first one. And we did learn more about training. I was home more with the kids. Some dogs worked out better than others. I have many fond memories of some really great ones. In the past, our dogs were for the kids, and we didn’t really think about whether a specific breed would fit in well with our lifestyle. This time was different. I really wanted the dog for me.

I did some breed research. There is a lot on information online about what breeds are best for older people. I bought a book about the Basset Hound breed. We applied to the Minnesota Basset Hound Rescue, and were approved. I assumed we would end up with an adult dog. Then we waited.

I was sure we would get a dog around the holidays. Because who doesn’t want a new dog to train in the middle of Thanksgiving and Christmas? I came across a pet adoption and sale group on Facebook with a post about Basset Hound puppies for sale about three hours from us. Messaging the breeder, I found she had 2 females left. I contacted the Basset Rescue to see if any dogs were likely to be available, and there just weren’t any guarantees, so we drove out to see the puppies.

If you ever saw or held a Basset Hound puppy, you can probably guess the only decision we had was to take one or both. Denny said one would definitely be enough. Rosie was the smaller of the two puppies, and she had pretty white markings around her neck. She seemed to enjoy cuddling and being held, so she was ours.

Life With Rosie

It has pretty much been chaos these first couple of weeks. Good thing we only took the one! The dog training books talk about taking your puppy out every hour. It’s more like every 20-30 minutes or there’s a puddle. At times I didn’t know if I was coming or going. How do people housebreak puppies that are at work all day?

Now after 3 weeks, we are settling into a bit of a routine. Rosie is so much fun. She’s getting me moving more, that’s for sure. I’m not on my hands and knees mopping up puddles quite as much, but I am going in and out of the house a lot. There is something about the joyful tail wagging when you come home that makes you feel so good, like you are the most important person in the world. I think she’s going to be a wonderful addition to our family.

Would you consider getting a puppy in retirement? How do you feel about vaccinations and what to feed your dog? Continue the discussion and stay informed about all the Neal’s Yard Remedies news and sales on Facebook.

Neal’s Yard Remedies Facial Oils to the Rescue!

Neal’s Yard Remedies Facial Oils to the Rescue!

Winter can leave your skin feeling tight and uncomfortable. Facial oils are a great way to give your complexion a boost of hydration. Neal’s Yard Remedies facial oils to the rescue!

Massaging your face with gentle upward strokes while applying facial oil will relax tension in your facial muscles and improve circulation while increasing absorption.

Nourishing Orange Flower Facial Oil

Orange Flower Facial Oil replenishes skin’s natural oils and helps dry skin stay soft and supple. Seabuckthorn boosts the microcirculation to the skin. Macadamia oil is rich in essential fatty acids to deeply nourish the skin. Ylang ylang helps balance sebum in dry skin. Apply 2-3 drops gently massaging into the skin after cleansing, or following your serum of choice, avoiding the eye area.

Rejuvenating Frankincense Facial Oil

Rejuvenating Frankincense Facial Oil is clinically proven to moisturize for up to 12 hours. I love placing a few drops of this organic, omega-rich frankincense and botanical oil in the palm of my hand, and gently massaging my face with upward strokes. It is immediately absorbed, and leaves my skin feeling soft and moisturized, but never oily or greasy. Frankincense Facial Oil is perfect for all skin types, and helps reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Frankincense Facial Oil | Organic Facial Oil | Neal's Yard Remedies | NYR Organic

Rehydrating Rose Facial Oil

If your skin falls into the normal range, Rehydrating Rose Facial Oil may be just what you need in the winter for a boost of hydration. This luxurious combination of organic skin-nourishing oils, rich in essential nutrients, antioxidants and vitamins infused with damask rose helps replenish moisture levels and boost skin’s natural radiance, and protects against moisture loss.

If your skin is feeling dry and tight, facial oil may be the answer. Neal's Yard Remedies | NYR Organic | Facial Oil | Organic Beauty | Frankincense Facial Oil | Facial Hydration

In the winter months, facial oils can calm, hydrate, rejuvenate and penetrate the skin easier than a cream. They will protect the skin from extreme temperatures and low humidity.

Even oily skin types benefit from the balancing of facial oils. Harsh cleansers can strip oily skin, and drive the oil forming sebaceous glands into forming excessive oils, or slow it down too much.

Whether you have a simple beauty routine of cleansing and moisturizing, or love the multiple steps of regular exfoliation, toning, serums and moisturizers, Neal’s Yard Remedies facial oils are the perfect addition for a more radiant you!

A Neal’s Yard Remedies Holiday Survival Guide

A Neal’s Yard Remedies Holiday Survival Guide

The holidays can be a stressful time. They are supposed to be filled with fun, family and feasting, but it doesn’t always happen that way, and that makes it even more stressful. Too many commitments, family dynamics, a budget stretched to the max and I could go on.

Take a deep breath, and make some time to prioritize. Exercise, sleep and diet are more important than ever at this time of year. Utilize some shortcuts. You can get a pumpkin pie from Costco instead of baking one from scratch. Maybe you don’t need to make dozens of Christmas cookies this year. If a picture is worth a thousand words, why not send photo holiday cards and forget about writing notes in each one?

NYR Organic | Neal's Yard Remedies | Holiday Survival | Christmas | Hanukkah | Self Care

The ABCs of holiday survival can help you not only survive the holidays, but thrive during the holidays!

A is for Aromatherapy

Remedies to Roll are your new BFFs during the holidays. Energy for finishing up the tree decorating and Relaxation for winding down. Study will come in handy for addressing those Christmas cards.

B is for Beauty Sleep

With all the shopping, work parties, kid’s Christmas programs, and decorating, you need the best night’s sleep possible, and what could be better than waking up to more beautiful skin with Beauty Sleep Concentrate? The restful aroma will ease you to sleep, while the serum supports your skin’s night time rejuvenation. Spritz a little Goodnight Pillow Mist on you pillow, and you are bound to sleep better.

C is for Cocoa & Cleanse

Caring for your inner health with superfood that are nutritionally dense with super-nutrients makes sense at this time of year, when meals can be on the run, and not always the healthiest. Fix yourself an Organic Cocoa Blend Rebalance instead of stopping at Starbucks for a sugar laden mocha. This comforting blend of mood enhancing cocoa and blueberry contains B vitamins and adaptogens – rhodiola, shiitake mushrooms, mama and ashwagandha to help you cope with stress and strain.

Organic Fiber Blend Cleanse contains psyllium husk and Bacillus coagulans to help maintain healthy gut function.

Remember, by taking care of yourself, you are taking care of your family and loved ones. And done is better than perfect, any day!
